Course description
First Certificate in English Test (FCE) is an exam for people who can use everyday written and spoken English at an Upper-Intermediate level. It is an ideal exam for people who want to use English for work or study purposes. To take this exam you should understand texts from a wide variety of sources, use English to make notes while someone is speaking in English, talk to people about a wide variety of topics, understand people talking in English on radio or television programmes.
Level needed:Upper-Intermediate level.
Exam structure
First Certificate in English Test (FCE) has 5 parts:
Reading: you will need to understand information in fiction and non-fiction books, newspapers, magazines and journals.
Writing: you will have to produce a number of different items such as a short story, a letter, an article, a report or a composition, each of about 120–180 words.
Listening: you will need to understand the meaning of a number of spoken material, including lectures, news programmes and public announcements.
Use of English: you will be given a number of tasks which show how well you control your grammar and vocabulary.
Speaking: you will be tested on your ability to participate in different types of interaction (with the examiner, another candidate and by yourself).
What you will have at the end of the course:understand the main idea of complex pieces of writing; keep up a conversation on a wide range of topics, expressing opinions and presenting arguments; produce clear, detailed pieces of writing, expressing opinions and explaining the advantages and disadvantages of different points of view; use English to make notes while someone is talking.
Advantages of taking FCE:FCE is a truly international exam, recognised by thousands of industrial, administrative and service-based employers as a qualification in intermediate English; it is accepted by a wide range of educational institutions for study purposes; companies such as American Express, Agfa-Gevaert GmbH, Siemens and Procter & Gamble all recognise the value of FCE in their overseas offices.
Course duration
1 semester (4,5 months) – 100 academic hours of class work and the same number of hours of independent work.

Time-table: twice a week at 19.00. Each lesson lasts 3 academic hours.
